Tulane to Offer Online Course to Help Alzheimer Caregiver Families

The Tulane University School of Social Work announced it will offer an online course in February that will have a particular emphasis on helping caregiver families deal with patients with Alzheimer's disease.

The course, called "Helping Caregivers Go the Distance: Social Work Interventions With Caregivers and Their Families," will be held from February 13th to 21st.

It is designed to provide practical information regarding the experiences of caregivers and families of aging loved ones and how best to be of assistance when care-giving burdens become overwhelming, a spokesperson said.

It will include an online interactive discussion in an Internet environment called Blackboard, where the instructor will post readings, questions and comments, and students post answers to the questions and their own questions for the instructor.

The course is being taught by Clara J. Hollis, a licensed certified social worker who is program director of the long-term acute inpatient psychiatry unit at Advance Care Hospital in New Orleans.

Before joining Advance Care, Hollis managed the Buckman Geriatric Assessment Program at Touro Infirmary.

The cost of the course is $90. For information and registration materials, contact Tracy Tallon at ttallon@tulane.edu.
