Heston Says He Was Stunned to Learn He Has Alzheimer's

Actor Charlton Heston said he was stunned to be told he has symptoms consistent with Alzheimer's Disease, and said that thus far he hasn't detected any change in his mental capacity.

"I feel good," the Oscar-winning actor said in an interview on NBC's "Today Show." he said. "This came as somewhat of a surprise. I've always been sure of my health and this suddenly gave me something else to think about."

Heston, 77, said he has been overwhelmed by the response from well-wishers since his dramatic August 9th announcement that doctors had told him he has symptoms of the disease (see earlier Alzheimer Week story).

He told the interviewers that he is not frightened of the future.

"Whatever happens happens," he said. "You take it in stride if you can. You don't have many options there," Heston said.
