Guide for Dealing With Alzheimer Patients and Driving Now in Spanish

A widely praised guide designed to help families of Alzheimer patients deal with the difficult issue of their loved one's driving is now available in Spanish as well as English.

"At the Crossroads: A Guide to Alzheimer's Disease, Dementia and Driving" offers a checklist of early warning signs and clear, realistic advice on how to assess a loved one's driving abilities, develop alternate methods of transportation and enlist the aid of physicians and other health care professionals.

"As the Hispanic population grows in the U.S., it becomes increasingly important to provide this helpful information in Spanish," said Beverly Hynes-Grace of The Hartford Financial Services Group, which publishes the guide.

Hynes-Grace noted that with today's early diagnoses and improved medications in the early stages of the disease, many people are able to drive safely for some period of time. However, driving skills in those afflicted with the disease can worsen at an unpredictable rate.

"This brochure will help family members deal with the difficult issue of driving modification and cessation," says Hynes-Grace. "It can help map out a strategy before problems arise."

The guide is available online in both English and Spanish at www.thehartford.com/alzheimers.
