Study: Alzheimer Therapy ZT-1 Advances in First Human Trial

The first human trial of ZT-1, a highly potent acetylcholinesterase inhibitor, has shown promise for the treatment of Alzheimer's disease, according to H3 Pharma, the drug's manufacturer.

Ten patients over the age of 65 received the drug in a specialized clinic in the Netherlands with "excellent tolerability results."

The drug is derived from Huperzine A, a highly selective acetylcholinesterase inhibitor which has enhanced the memory in the elderly and Alzheimer's patients.

A second phase I trial is planned to demonstrate the drug's effectiveness in treating the disease.
