Indiana has
received a $300,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Health and
Human Services to help monitor patients with Alzheimer's disease
who still reside at home.
The three-year
grant will help cover the costs of a pilot project to equip selected
patients with video monitoring. The "electronic in-home respite"
program is designed for rural and low-income residents. The video
monitoring allows caregivers to have peace of mind when they are
away from the Alzheimer's patient.
The monitoring
will be connected to either the caregiver's place of employment,
a neighbors' residence or a central site.
The monitoring will begin in January 2002.
